Preparing for an interview can feel overwhelming, but there are a few key steps that ensure you’re ready to make a strong impression, no matter the role.
Here’s the minimum prep you should do before walking into any interview.
Research the Company
Know what the company does, its history, and its mission. A quick review of their website and recent news will give you a sense of their culture and goals.
Understand the Job Description
Make sure you fully understand the role. Identify the key responsibilities and think about how your past experience aligns with these.
Prepare Your Elevator Pitch
Be ready to give a 1-2 minute introduction about yourself—who you are, your background, and why you’re interested in this specific role.
Prepare for Common Interview Questions
Be ready for standard questions like “Tell me about yourself” or “What’s your biggest strength?” Have your answers prepared but not overly rehearsed.
Review Your Resume
Be familiar with the details of your resume. Be ready to explain any gaps or shifts in your career. Make sure you have the same version you shared with the company.
Examples:
Front Desk Role: Understanding how the hotel positions itself in the market or its customer service principles can make all the difference in your answers.
Restaurant Manager Role: Knowing the restaurant’s core clientele or its unique selling points (USP) can help you align your management style with their needs.
Housekeeping Supervisor Role: Understanding the hotel’s cleanliness standards or environmental initiatives can show that you’re ready to lead a team that meets their specific expectations.
Before your next interview, set aside at least 30 minutes for this preparation. It’s a small time investment that can have a big impact!
